A project of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland and the Tanja Liedtke Foundation in the Tanzjahr 2016, in cooperation with K3 – Choreographisches Zentrum Hamburg

In the Tanzjahr Germany 2016, the Tanja Liedtke Foundation and the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland are starting a common initiative in order to increase the presence of dance in the media. The long-term objective is to promote dance as an artistic form of expression – physically present and intellectually reflected upon, emotional and visual – to a large audience.

In three public forums on the subject “Dance and Film / Mediated Dance”, the exchange between dance makers and dance filmmakers as well as between artists and media experts will be the main focus.

“Mediated Dance” starts the series in Hamburg on May 18th; forums in Leipzig (October) and Berlin (late 2016) will follow. The Hamburg forum will join dance artists, video filmmakers and media experts. Together we want to develop new strategies in order to increase the presence of dance, but also to prepare artistic production in the performing arts for the challenges in the world of media.

Choreographers, dance filmmakers from the region and throughout Germany, representatives of dance film festivals and video portals on the internet as well as promoters from the fields of culture and the media are all invited. Among them are the choreographer Antje Pfundtner, the director of the Deutsche Tanzfilminstitut Heide-Marie Härtel, the performer Julian Crotti, the creative director of the dance and media production Balletboyz in London Michael Nunn, and Christian Esch from the NRW Cultural Department.

The public forum at the Speicher am Kaufhauskanal in Hamburg-Harburg on May 18th is directed at a interested professional audience during the day; in the evening, the target audience is larger and includes people who are generally interested in dance and film. Beginning at 7 pm, we extend the invitation to “Best of Dance” – dance in film with videos and talks.
